I think it’s a good idea. I don’t make enough right now to afford health insurance, which is something like $200 a month. For me, that’s a big chunk of my take-home…that is 1/3 of rent. I can’t afford that. Luckily I’m young and healthy, but if I have a medical emergency, I’ll go bankrupt. It would be nice if I could go to the doctor and pay a reasonable fee based on my income, with the government subsidizing it.
I don’t believe in free handouts…I’m not on welfare, food stamps, or anything. The only thing I take are subsidized student loans (I have to pay them back) and veterans benefits (I served my time for these) I just think that health care should not be a benefit for the rich.
Then why do so many people hate the idea of “socialized” medicine?
